- Hand made rugs are better quality. Making a hand made rug requires far more skill and precision.
- Hand-spun wool retains natural lanolin (which acts as a scotch guard) and lustre whereas machine spun wool does not.Our hand made rugs are made with only the best natural fibres, like 100% New Zealand wool. Many machine made rugs are made with polypropylene, a synthetic fibre. This fibre eventually pills and becomes very flat and dead.
- A hand-knotted rug can last for 70 years - even longer when kept well. You can see many hand made rugs in museums all over Europe.
- On average, a hand made rug will last for 30 years.
- Machine made rugs may last for 30 years but will look worn and old after just 5 years.
